How to Choose the Right Bond for Your Concrete

Diamond bond hardness works in reverse to concrete hardness — the harder the slab, the softer the bond you need, so the matrix wears away fast enough to keep exposing sharp new diamond instead of glazing over. Here's the breakdown:

• Extra Soft Bond — Built for super hard, dense concrete (high-PSI slabs, trowel-finished floors). The softest matrix wears quickly to continuously expose fresh diamond on the toughest surfaces.
• Soft Bond — Matched to hard concrete. Wears fast enough to stay sharp on tough slabs while holding up slightly longer than Extra Soft.
• Medium Bond — The go-to choice for medium-hardness concrete and the most common slab condition on the average job site. Balances cutting speed with segment life.
• Hard Bond — Designed for soft, abrasive concrete. A harder matrix resists premature wear from soft, aggregate-heavy slabs that would burn through a softer bond too fast.

Not sure what you're working with? Do a quick scratch test with a metal key or nail — if it scratches easily, you're likely dealing with soft concrete (reach for Hard bond); if it barely marks, you're on hard or super hard concrete (reach for Soft or Extra Soft).
